Yeah, I know, the title’s a pun and I hate myself for doing that. You’re looking at a picture of two guys across the street double-teaming some leaves with an electric blower and a gas blower. Last weekend Electric Blower Guy spent an hour blowing leaves onto the sidewalk, then another half-hour blowing them under a running mower — which blew the shredded leaves right back into the street. This week he used a giant riding mower as wide as the sidewalk itself (how he turned it around I can’t guess) to run over the leaves first, then he and his accomplice blew the remains around for a good long time.
I’m pretty sure they still manufacture and sell rakes. In fact, there’s a Dollar Store a block away that probably sells rakes. I’m also positive that raking leaves is not only a much less dickish way of solving this problem, it’s also twice as efficient.
Gas-powered mowers and blowers create enormous amounts of toxic exhaust, but the noise pollution seems worse. The only more irritating and less effective method I can imagine would be to use a compressed air horn to move the leaves around.
